A deposit is basically a promise that you're serious about getting the tattoo or piercing you're asking an artist to design and booking their time for. If your artist does not take a deposit and you decide to not show up, reschedule or cancel with less than 24hours notice, the artist can't always fill their time and that wastes their time, with a deposit the artist at least gets something for the time they set aside if you don't end up going through with your appointment
So if you need to cancel or reschedule please contact your artist with as much time as possible and when you're booking your appointments please familiarize was yourself with each shop or artists cancelation, refund and rescheduling policies so theres no unpleasant surprises.
In most shops deposits are never refundable unless the artist them-self has to cancel the appointment.
